One of the most important things we can do if we desire change in our lives is to cultivate mindfulness and awareness. Without this, it’s almost impossible to change anything without being aware of what’s working and not working in our lives. We are often disconnected and not tuned into our sensitivity. This is the discerning part of us which guides us and most importantly, knows why we choose what we choose.
Most of the time we operate on auto-pilot and are unaware of our thoughts, feelings, and intentions. Even when we think we are aware, we often aren’t. We can always peel back more layers, question more, and sink deeper into who we are.
We choose what we choose because that’s what we’ve been taught to value and prioritize. Unfortunately, taking the time to really get to know ourself in this loud world we live in is not a priority. Instead, we are yanked, pulled, and tugged in all directions, eventually finding ourself living a life that is not in accordance with our values.
We may wonder how we have gotten here. But these things happen gradually, slowly, and making choice after choice that we never truly questioned. The good news is we can make a change in our lives right now. It doesn’t have to be a big change either. With one small step at a time, little by little we are able to design a life that is aligned with our values, purpose and priorities.
